- A resident of the Saanich Peninsula for all but five years since 1980, including the last 15 years in North Saanich/Sidney. My wife and I raised our children on the peninsula and were proud public-school parents for over 20 years. And now proud public school grandparents!
- 12 years as a Superintendent of Schools and the Board’s CEO here in School District 63 Saanich, plus three more years in the same role in SD 69 Qualicum.
- A record of fiscal responsibility and accountability while focusing resources on the needs of children K-12.
- A past member of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board.
- Six years as a member of the BC School Superintendents Association Board of Directors, including two years as elected President.
- 15 months of secondment to the BC Public School Employers Association.
- Experience as an adjunct professor in leadership studies at UVic.
- Experience at provincial and local collective bargaining tables.
- Extensive experience in School District board governance beyond my four years on the Board, both as Superintendent/CEO and post-retirement as a consultant in governance, executive search, senior staff evaluation, program evaluation, and more.
- Extensive experience in working with First Nations communities, including the W’SANEC Nation and the W’SANEC School Board.
- Certification from the Justice Institute of BC in conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation.
- A deep and abiding commitment to success for all learners, including those who are marginalized or vulnerable.
- Proven commitment to supporting the voice of parents and community in public education.
